Miss Rodeo SD travels in March
Welcome back! The month of March has been full of all kinds of events for me.
I spent the first weekend of March in Valley City at the North Dakota Winter Show. I was honored to be invited to judge the Miss and Jr. Miss Rodeo North Dakota Winter Show pageants. Congratulations to the new Miss Rodeo NDWS, Sarah Hass, and Jr. Miss Rodeo NDWS, Calli Olson! I was also able to take part in the rodeo, helping out with sponsor flags, a Frisbee toss, and the boot scramble. One of the best parts of the weekend, however, was staying at the President’s House on the Valley City State University campus. All the visiting queens stayed there, and we had what amounted to a giant rodeo queen slumber party!
I also traveled to Deadwood for the CHS “Focus on Feed” Dealer Meeting mid-March. My employer, Dakota Plains Feed & Grain, is a CHS dealer, and it was great to learn about the new products that we will have this year! We were also treated to a fascinating discussion about educating the public about where their food comes from and the use of technology in agriculture. These are two issues I am extremely passionate about, and hope to share with the people I meet throughout this year.
My next stop was the state capital to visit the Senate and House of Representatives during their legislative session. District 1 Senator Jason Frerichs was kind enough to present me with a proclamation honoring my achievements leading up to being named Miss Rodeo South Dakota. I was introduced in front of both the Senate and House, and was extremely touched to receive a standing ovation from members of both! It was a great honor to be recognized by some of our state’s biggest leaders. I was also able to meet Governor Dennis Daugaard and take a moment for a photo op with him. Thank you Senator Frerichs for setting my visit up and making me feel welcome!
I’m home now for a whole week … which is the longest stretch I’ve been home for since the beginning of my year! I’m grateful to have the chance to spend Easter weekend with my family before it’s time to hit the road again. Tune in next month for a recap of my April adventures, starting with the Ram National Circuit Finals!

Until next time, happy trails. F

The deadline to transmit fiscal bills to the second chamber in the 2021 Montana Legislative Session arrived this week. We didn’t see a lot of floor action on some of our agriculture-specific bills in either…
