Miss Rodeo South Dakota pageant begins next week

The Miss Rodeo South Dakota pageant gets underway next week, June 29-July 4 during the Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche, SD.
Competing for 2011 Miss Rodeo South Dakota title are: Courtney Peterson, Sisseton, SD; Jacque Lee, Vale, SD; and Trisha Smeenk, Belle Fourche, SD. Vying for the 20100 Junior Miss Rodeo South Dakota honor is: Morgan Janisch, Lake City, SD; and Kay Marrs, Whitewood, SD.
Concluding their year-long reign at the pageant will be 2010 Miss Rodeo South Dakota Vanessa Ternes and 2010 Junior Miss Rodeo South Dakota Kourtney Hauge.
Contestants arrive Wednesday, June 29, for orientation at their host home. Competition gets underway Thursday, June 30 with day-long interviews and a kickoff party at the Roundup Grounds at 5 p.m.
On Friday, July 1, the Miss Rodeo South Dakota style show and speech competition will be held at 1 p.m. at the Belle Fourche Community Center. Contestants will then carry flags at the Ranch Rodeo, beginning at 7 p.m.
The horsemanship competition begins at 8 a.m. sharp on Saturday, July 2, followed by a salad luncheon beginning at noon at the Christian Life Center. Coronation of the new Miss Rodeos will take place at 6:35 p.m., just prior to the 7 p.m. start of the Black Hills Roundup Rodeo. Following the rodeo there will be an autograph session.
Contestants will continue to carry flags during the weekend rodeo performances, as well as ride in the parade, which begins at 10:30 a.m. on the Fourth of July.
In addition to the pageant activities, Miss Rodeo America McKenzie Haley from Winner, SD, will be attending the Black Hills Roundup and pageant events June 30-July 2.
