Montana group building directory of local food producers
July 23, 2013
If you are an ag producer who has a product to sell directly to the consumers, the Montana Farm Bureau is looking for you. The state's largest agricultural organization is in the process of developing Bountiful Big Sky, a local grower connection. Currently they are seeking growers of all kinds who want to share their bounty with other Montanans.
A listing in the on-line directory is free to Farm Bureau members. If a producer isn't a member, all they have to do is join Farm Bureau for $75. Not only will they receive their free listing, but will be eligible for many member benefits. Farm Bureau will help market products for the members through their publications, Montana Farm Bureau website, Facebook page, Twitter and radio ads.
"Consumers are becoming more and more interested in who is growing their food, so we thought it would be beneficial to bring the customer and farmer together. We came up with the idea of Bountiful Big Sky." notes Chelcie Cremer, staff coordinator for Bountiful Big Sky. "It's more than just a farmer finding a customer or vice versa. It's meant to be an educational exchange between farmers and consumers, so farmers and ranchers can directly talk about the food they produce. Of course, this will enable our producers to sell their products to people they might not have had the opportunity to meet through other venues."
