Nathan Palm hosted his second annual sale in Watertown, S.D. Nathan has been in the Angus business for quite some time, diligently buying genetics from top programs such as Assman, Lagrand, and Schaaf Angus Valley. Nathan has a different twist to his program, as he calves in May and June. These bulls are long aged bulls that are not overfat and, consequently, longevity is a selling point. The amount of Embryo Transfer work that Nathan does gives his customers opportunities to buy full brothers.
Topping the sale at $6,750 was Palm Imoression 2003. He is sired by Connealy Impression and is out of a PA Balance Sheet Dam. She stems back to one of the really good cows to come out of the Assman program. He would have a $B that would put him in the top 10 percent of the breed. Mike Assman of Mission, S.D., bought this long bodied, correct made, thick bull.
Lot 15 brought $5,750, heading home with Kevin Krakow of Strandburg, S.D. PALM Mentor 2056 is an ET son of Connealy Mentor 7374 and out of the grandmother, ALC Blackcap P909, to the high selling bull. This high maternal bred bull has a 1.5 bw, 47 ww, 89 yw, and a 35 milk EPD profile.
Blair Bohl of Highmore, S.D., selected lot 5 for $5,500. PALM Upward 2039 is a June 1, 2012, son of Sitz Upward and is out of a Bon View Bando 598 dam. This ET bull carries a 1.2 bw, 60 ww, 111 yw, and 38 milk EPD profile. This bull stems from the same cow family as BCC Bushwacker.
Lot 33 was selected by Todd Vanderlinden of Webster, S.D., for $5,250. PALM Confidence 2044 is sired by Connealy Confidence 0100 and is out of a 004 cow. This calving ease speacialist stems from a cow that has a birth ratio production record of 80.
Topping the heifer sale at $5,250 was PALM Blackcap May 317. This May 4, 2013, female is sired by Connealy Consensus 7229 and out of a SAV Iron Mountain 8066 dam. Leonard Newman of Carmel, Ind.
