National Western Stock Show renames Fed Beef Contest

For cattle feeders and old steer jocks alike, the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) has added a new and exciting twist to the tradition of the Fed Beef Contest. Renamed the “Hoof and Rail Fed Beef Contest,” this year’s event adds a live judging division of the fed cattle that will ultimately be judged on the rail after processing.

No need to primp these cattle for the show as the rules require no clipping, washing or grooming of any kind. The cattle will be displayed and shown loose so no halter breaking is required. Exhibitors may enter from 1-10 head of steers or heifers. The cattle will be processed at JBS in Greeley, CO, where exhibitors will be invited to view the carcasses after judging.

The show will consist of an on the hoof live contest, an on the rail carcass division contest and a combined overall champion. Premiums and banners will be awarded for all division winners.

If you still have that burning competitive desire to go head-to-head with your friends and feedlot operators from Colorado and surrounding states, please contact the National Western Stock Show Livestock office at 303-299-5559 or get an entry form online at http://www.nationalwestern.com in the premium book section. The on the hoof contest will be held Jan. 18, 2012 with the entry deadline being Dec. 15, 2011.
