ND Stockmen’s Association reminds producers to renew livestock brands soon

If you haven’t renewed your livestock brand yet, it will only be safe from being picked up by another owner for six more months. The one-year grace period that protects brand owners from losing their brands ends Dec. 31, 2011. After that time, non-renewed brands can be picked up by others without the former owner’s signature on a brand bill of sale, warned North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) Brand Recorder Angela Keller.

“The grace period protects those who didn’t renew their brand because of an oversight or another reason,” Keller explained, “but that time is up at the end of the year.”

To renew your brand, either send in the blue renewal form you received in August 2010 or call Keller at 701-223-2522 for another copy.

Renewal forms for nearly 22,000 livestock brands were sent in August 2010. To date, 19,138 brands have been renewed.
