NDQHA Hall Of Fame inducts John W. Christman
The North Dakota Quarter Horse Association held its annual banquet and awards ceremony on Jan. 25, 2014 at the Radisson Hotel in Bismarck. The association also held its first NDQHA Hall Of Fame induction ceremonies along with their banquet. One of the inductees was John W. Christman from Lemmon, S.D. John was an organizer of the association in 1960 and served on its first board of directors. John brought some of the first registered Quarter Horses into this area in the late 1950’s and continued to raise and show them, use them on the ranch, and sell them at his own production sales. The Christman family sponsored a Quarter Horse show at their ranch starting in 1959. These shows would be held annually on a Saturday and on the following Sunday, the Lemmon Jaycees sponsored a show too. This allowed Quarter Horse enthusiasts from both North and South Dakota to compete in two shows within a close proximity. The Christman Ranch shows were approved by the NDQHA.
