Nebraska brand inspection topic at May 25-26 meetings

Nebraska Cattlemen will be talking about brand inspection, brand recording and brand investigation at an upcoming Nebraska Cattlemen Brand Input meeting. This meeting will be held on May 25 at the Atkinson Livestock Market in Atkinson, NE. The Brand Input Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. (CST) and all cattle producers and interested individuals are invited to attend.

Another opportunity to discuss brand inspection will be at the Sandhills Cattle Association Convention on May 26 in Valentine, NE where Michael Kelsey, Nebraska Cattlemen Executive Vice President speak on a panel. There will also be a Nebraska Cattlemen booth set up all day where anyone can give their input about brand inspection, recording and investigation.

Additional brand meetings will be held throughout the state in the months to come. Nebraska is a state that is split; the west side of the state has brand inspection, while the east side does not. Those who raise cattle or are involved with the industry are invited to come share their thoughts on this topic.

“This input might include ideas to make the program better. It is critical for Nebraska beef producers to hear all sides of this issue by sharing their ideas and listening to the ideas of others,” said Kelsey. “Nebraska Cattlemen is happy to help facilitate this important discussion.”

At the 2010 Nebraska Cattlemen Convention, the membership directed the organization to gather data about brand inspection and hold informational meetings to educate and listen to producers about this issue. At each of the meetings, input from producers will be recorded. Nebraska Cattlemen appreciates the Nebraska Brand Committee’s involvement in these meetings.
