Nebraska: Cattlemen Midyear meeting June 8-9 in Leigh, Columbus area

Nebraska Cattlemen are welcoming people to the hometown area of their President Chuck Folken for this year’s Nebraska Cattlemen Midyear Meeting. Folken encourages all members to visit the to the Leigh/Columbus area for the meeting activities on June 8-9.

“This is your opportunity to shape policy and provide direction for leadership and staff,” said Folken. “If you are not a member of Nebraska Cattlemen I encourage you to attend the Midyear meeting – then join many of your neighbors and become a member of Nebraska Cattlemen.”

The first General Session, on Thursday, June 9, will provide updates on Nebraska Cattlemen activities and hear from keynote speakers: Ken Lemke, Nebraska Public Power District and Larry Van Tassell, University of Nebraska Agriculture Economics Department Head. Lemke will give his outlook on the U.S. and world economic situation and Van Tassell will provide an update on the department’s activities.

The second General Session will include a wrap up of Nebraska Cattlemen legislative activities during the 2011 session. The keynote speaker will be Scott George, Vice President of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), who will provide an update on issues that the NCBA is following.

The six policy committees will meet to discuss issues and policy relative to their respective areas. The Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation will hold their annual luncheon to announce the Retail Value Steer Challenge results as well as recognize the recipients of this year’s youth scholarships.
