Neiman 77 Ranch Annual Angus & Simm-Angus Bull Sale

Dan Piroutek
Bill, Katie and Jo Keith from Casper, WY.

The Neiman 77 Ranch is located near Hulett, WY. Ryan Neiman welcomed the big crowd gathered for their annual production sale. Neiman’s breeding program is centered around producing cattle that are easy to raise, and cattle that can do it on limited inputs. Centered around “OCC” genetics, these cattle are bred to be moderate in their framework. Plus, they have a tremendous amount of muscle and thickness.

For the first time, a select group of Simmental-cross bulls were a part of the day’s offering. They have sold some of these crossbred bulls at home for a number of years, but decided they should bring a sampling of them to town. These Simmental-cross bulls offer some extra hybrid vigor, but they are also bred to be very maternal and easy fleshing with natural thickness.

The 77 Ranch bulls were two-year-old bulls that had never been pushed. They ran out just like yearling cattle on the ranch, and were then put on grass.

Many repeat buyers were in the seats to compete for this moderately fleshed set of bulls. The sale was very active from start to finish.

Top-selling bull of the day was Lot 1, selling for $6,750, and heading home to the Deer Creek Angus ranch from Hiland, WY. This bull was sired by OCC Missing Link 830M, and was out of OCC Juanada 710K who was sired by OCC Anchor 771A. Here was an extremely stout-made, deep-bodied bull with a lot of volume. He had a 74-lb. birth weight, and posted a weaning weight of 655 lbs. EPDs of CED 8, BW 0, WW 41, YW 64 and Milk 16 completed the package.

Orville Carson, from Arvada, WY, chose the Lot 11 bull at $5,500. A son of OCC Emblazon 833R out of a daughter of N Bar Emulation EXT, this bull was born at 85 lbs. and grew to 618 lbs. at weaning. Lot 11 boasted EPDs of CED 7, BW 2.2, WW 40, YW 68 and Milk 16.

Lot 9 sold for $4,750 to Tim Burch from Alzada, MT. He was a son of OCC Right On 822R out of OCC Juanada 901K, a daughter of OCC Great Plains. With an 83-lb. birth weight, he weaned at 632 lbs., and had EPDs of CED 9, BW 1.1, WW 41, YW 73 and Milk 17.

McFarland Land and Livestock from Newcastle, WY, selected Lot 8 at $4,750. Born at 80 lbs., this son of OCC Right On 822R by OCC Dixie Erica 799J, a daughter of OCC Emblazon 854E. Weaning at 635 lbs., his EPDs included CED 8, BW 1.4, WW 39, YW 79 and Milk 14.

The gavel fell at $4,500 with Lot 7 finding a new home at Haiar Enterprises from Spearfish, SD. He was a son of OCC Magnitude 805M, out of an OCC Gladiator 612 G daughter. He had a 79-lb. birth weight and a weaning weight of 609 lbs. His EPDs were CED 9, BW 0.2, WW 42, YW 73, and Milk 14.
