NILE hires livestock department manager
The NILE is extremely pleased to announce the addition of Shelby Shaw as the Livestock Department Manager & Director of Youth Education. Shelby joined the NILE part time in 2013 and has become an invaluable asset to the entire organization.
Growing up in the horse racing industry across the state of Montana, Shelby gained a long lasting love for agriculture and horses. It wasn’t until her parents moved the family from Great Falls to Worden, Montana, that Shelby developed a love for cattle – more specifically show cattle. She began showing cattle in 2002, purchasing her first 4-H steer from the NILE Club Calf Sale. The very next year, 2003, Shelby entered an Angus heifer into the Jr. Angus Show and the rest is history! She has shown every year at the NILE since 2003, purchased 4-H steers, competed in FFA contests, was a NILE Merit Heifer Recipient in 2008, received a NILE Scholarship in 2009, in 2012 Shelby was selected as an intern for the NILE & in 2013 became a part-time member of the NILE Livestock Office Staff.
Raised in Worden, MT and a graduate of Huntley Project High School in 2009, she began her secondary education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY. From there Shelby transferred to Northwest College in Powell, WY – graduating in 2011 with an Associate’s Degree in Animal Science and a minor in Agricultural Business. She then went on to finish her education with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Animal Science – focusing on Livestock Production and Industry from Montana State University in 2013.
Shelby and her husband Ike reside in Worden with their dogs, horses, and show cattle. Much of her free time is spent working with her mom Bambi sorting, washing, clipping, or calving. Other time is spent working with her horses preparing for the show ring. It is her dream to qualify and exhibit at the American Paint Horse World Show someday! As a lifelong advocate for the 4-H and FFA programs, being a former member of both herself – she is currently an active 4-H Leader and is a member of the Huntley Project FFA Alumni.
All of us at the NILE believe that the dedication of our staff to the Ag industry allows our organization to present the best possible events. “Shelby is an exception asset to the NILE, we are pleased to have her on our team.” Says John Carrel, NILE President.
