Northern Beef Packers building permit extended

The Aberdeen, SD City Council Monday extended the expiration date on a building permit for Northern Beef Packers from Dec. 31, 2011 to the end of 2012, according to the Aberdeen-News.

The plant has been under construction, off and on, since 2006 and has faced numerous financial and other obstacles. Plant officials have offered different opening dates for the plant over the past year, none of which have been met.

The $100 million beef plant will slaughter 1,500 cattle per day and employ more than 600 workers when fully operational.
