Joseph Peter Foxhoven: 1923-2012
Joseph Peter Foxhoven, 89, of Sterling, died Oct. 6, 2012, in Sterling. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Tennant Funeral Home with Vigil and Rosary following at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ken Koehler celebrating.
Mr. Foxhoven was born Feb. 3, 1923, to Mike J. and Mary (Jacoby) Foxhoven in Fleming. He graduated from St. Anthony School in Sterling in 1942. Joe joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 and was there until 1946.
On Jan. 2, 1946, he married Isabel Bettger in Brush. They were married 62 years on her passing. July 14, 2008.
Joe, his brother, Mark, and Bob Slonecker were in partnership in the firm of Foxhoven’s Inc., 1100 West Main Street, Sterling, until Mark’s death. Joe also was in partnership with Phil Bowe at Sinclair Bulk Plant and later established JPF Energy.
Joe loved horses and enjoyed competing in team roping. One of his most memorable times was qualifying for the Old Timers National Finals team roping in Amarillo, Texas in the early 80s. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus since 1943, and was a Sterling Elks Lodge honorary life member.
Joe is survived by his sister, Mary Jayne Benton, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and great-great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Isabel; sister, Olive Berg; brothers, Wilfrid, Monsigner Omer, Mark and Ivo Foxhoven.
Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
