Gage Paul Holzum, age 16, of Rapelje, Montana, was called home to be with God on March 3,2025.
Gage was born on December l9, 2008, in Modesto, California, to Tyler and Jennifer Holzum. Gage attended school in Oakdale until the age of 14, at which point his family moved to Rapelje Montana where he continued his education.
A talented young cowboy, Gage was a member of both the California High School Rodeo Association and the Montana High School Rodeo Association. At such a young age his skill and dedication had already earned him 7 saddles and multiple buckles across varied timed events.
Gage had a deep passion for roping, guns, ranching, and branding calves. He was incredibly proud of his horses and loved spending time with his family and friends. As a sixth generation California Ranch and Rodeo Cowboy on his mother’s side and a fifth generation Montana Ranch and Rodeo Cowboy on his father’s side Gage was steeped in a rich family legacy of hard work, dedication, and a deep love for the land.
Gage was a kind, compassionate, and loyal soul who touched the lives of everyone be met. His heart was as big as his talent. Whether through his warm nature, his ability to unite those around him, or his unsharable politeness, Gage left an incredible mark on the world.
A signature part of his daily routine was tucking a Classic roping glove in his belt every morning, no matter where he went and swinging a Powerlite soft rope over and over again.
Gage is survived by his loving parents Tyler and Jennifer Holzum, his devoted brother Ty, his Grandmother, Betty Roen, and his grandparents, Doug and Janus Holzum. He was laid to rest in a private graveside service in Laurel, Montana, on March 16, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Gage’s honor on April 5, 2025, at 3:oopm at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds in Oakdale, California. A second Celebration of Life will take place on April 11, 2025, at 3:30pm at Miller’s Horse Palace In Laurel, Montana.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established The Gage Paul Holzum Memorial Scholarship Fund in his honor to help support rodeo athletes who aspire to attend college or need financial assistance to compete in rodeo schools or clinics. Gage’s passion, dedication, and love for roping left an enduring legacy within the rodeo community. His memory will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
