Outside Circle by Jan Swan Wood: Grandboys and traditions, rodeos, match bronc riding, cowgirl rodeo, barrels, horse buying station
What a good time we’ve had here on Dry Creek. Our grandboys were here for 10 days and I sure had fun with them. They are just little guys of almost four and just past two years of age, so all of life is a bright new world for them. They got to ride their new little horse Tim and it’s mutual love for everyone. He’s been a little hard to catch, but when the little boys are there, he comes right over to us to get caught. It’s obvious I need another little saddle and little horse, but we’re making do until that can happen.
We also branded while the little guys and their Daddy were here. The oldest grandson’s first heifer’s calf was branded by him and his Daddy, and the little one’s first heifer calf was branded. He wasn’t as keen on helping but watched with great interest as she was branded. That tradition of getting a heifer calf from the grandparents for the second birthday was passed down through my family, and I’m sure glad we’re able to do it for these little boys. They’re so proud and excited about their heifers and it gives them a vested interest in the business. Those heifers are from the line that started with our son’s first heifer, given to him by his grandparents. We bought his cows when he left home, so that line of good cows are still here. Traditions are pretty special around here.

Well, that’s my circle for this week. I’d better put my horse up and get to stacking hay. Be sure and send me your event information either on this email or find me on Facebook. I’m always glad to help promote an event. Happy haying!
