Pettera Angus held their complete dispersal sale on Nov. 3, at Midwest Livestock Auction, McCook, NE. There was a very nice crowd of buyers in the seats from all over the Midwest to bid on and purchase this sale offering. The sale included herd bulls, donor females, bred females, spring bulls, fall yearling bulls and replacement heifers.
Randy and Desree Pettera started their small registered Angus herd in 1980. From that time, they have focused on breeding the easy fleshing, feed efficient cattle they had grown up with. The past several years they have traveled extensively to add specific genetics to their herd that would achieve those goals. This was a true, once in a lifetime, Dispersal sale. The entire herd was offered to the public with none held back.
Topping the sale was the lot 127 herd bull, OCC Whow 682W, a March 10, 2009, son of OCC Paxton 730P and out of the famed OCC Dixie Erica 903E female. This bull was loaded with muscle, depth, thickness and length. He has EPD’s of BW -2.3, WW 45, YW 81, Milk 18. Matt Stanley, Stephenville, TX was the buyer at $10,000.
Other top bulls include:
Lot 131, RDP Protégé 0325, a December 2010, son of GAR Eagle Protégé. This bull posted EPD’s of BW 1.6, WW 53, YW 88, Milk 18 and sold to Jim Harms, Valentine, NE for $5,000.
Lot 137, RDP BW Whow 1255, a March 13, 2011, son of the herd bull OCC Whow sold to Pochop Farms, Atwood, KS for $4,000. This bull has EPD’s of BW -.4, WW 40, YW 70, Milk 23.
Selling at $3,900 was lot 143x, RDP Destination 147, a Feb. 23, 2011, son of RDP Destination 6145 with EPD’s of BW 2.0, WW 49, YW 92, Milk 21. Joe Lutz, Parks, NE was the buyer.
Topping the female division was lot 2, MAR Donna 840, a February 2008 daughter of Leachman Right Time and out of the Traveler 6807 sired Brooks Donna 321 cow. This was one of the lead donor females for Pettera Angus, she posted EPD’s of BW 1.3, WW 34, YW 70, Milk 25. This female sold bred to OCC Just Right for an early Jan. 2013 calf and sold to Tim Reimer Foundation Cattle Co., Chillicothe, MO for $7,200.
Selling at $5,200 was lot 2A, an August 1, 2011, daughter of the Brooks Donna female and sired by AAR Really Windy 1205. This top heifer calf has EPD’s of BW .1, WW 40, YW 79, Milk 23 and sold to Tim Hacket, Cuba, IL.
Selling at $5,000 was lot 22, PF Miss 361 Edition 1150, a Feb. 6, 2011, daughter of Duff New Edition 6108 and out of an N Bar Ext daughter sold to Bill Mann, Stratford, OK. This heifer has EPD’s of BW 1.8, WW 48, YW 79, Milk 18 and sold bred to Limestone Rancher Y412 for a January 2013 calf.
Lot 8, OCC Pollyanna 872W, a March 15, 2009, daughter of OCC Missing Link with EPD’s of BW .7, WW 38, YW 67, Milk 21, sold to Kip Sparrow, Frankfort, KY for $4,700. This cow sold with her August 23, 2012, bull calf sired by Panama Jack at side.
