The Pine Creek herd is widely recognized for being rich with some of the best female genetics in the Angus breed. Pine Creek is owned by Lyle and Miriam Weiss, and they were hosts to a good crowd of bidders, despite the snow from the day before.

These cows are deep-bodied and long-made, with excellent udders – bred to have volume and fleshing ability. In the 2011 Pathfinder Report, Pine Creek Angus owned 31 Pathfinder females and three Pathfinder sires.

The large offering of open yearling heifers was rapidly accepted by this buying crowd. This set of bulls was centered around calving ease bulls, with 48 of them identified as “heifer bulls.”

The top-selling bull of the day was Lot 1, a son of Sitz Upward 307R. This bull was out of a daughter of Sitz Greatplains 8102 who ratioed 106 on two calves. With EPDs of BW 1.0, WW 61, Milk 33, YW 117 and CEM 8, he had a 78-lb. birth weight, a weaning weight of 748 lbs., and a yearling weight of 1,281 lbs. Scanning a big ribeye area of 16.4 square inches, he had an IMF of 4.76%. This really long-bodied bull with a lot of substance sold for $7,500 to LTJ Angus from Powell, WY.

Hanneken Angus from Royalton, MN, bought the Lot 35 bull at $6,500. He was a son of Hoover Dam, out of a daughter of Connealy Leadon who had ratioed 109 on three calves. She is now a Pathfinder. This bull had a really stylish look to him and had a 78-lb. birth weight. He weaned at 710 lbs. before growing to a yearling weight of 1,183 lbs. His EPDs were BW 0.6, WW 52, Milk 32 and YW 99. He scanned a ribeye area of 16.5 square inches and posted an IMF score of 4.06. His scrotal was 37.5 cm.
