PRCA event leaders to compete at Days of ’76

The entries have closed and the Deadwood Days of ’76 Rodeo will again feature top PRCA cowboys and cowgirls in each event. The 2007 PRCA all-around, steer roping and calf roping champions will compete in the steer roping, tie-down roping and team roping events.

Current all-around leader Trevor Brazile of Decatur, TX will be joined by the number two cowboy in the all-around, Josh Peek of Pubelo, CO, who will be competing in the tie-down roping and steer wrestling events.

The current number three all-around leader, Steven Dent of Mullen, NE, will compete in bareback riding. Other top ten all-around cowboys entered in Deadwood include Cash Myers of Athens, TX, Cade Swor of Chico, TX, Chance Kelton of Mayer, AZ, and Seth Glause of Rock Springs, WY.



This year’s Days of ’76 Rodeo will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, which will include 19 of the top 20 steer roping leaders in the current steer roping standings. This will include world champions Brazile, Scott Snedecor, Buster Record, Bryce Davis, and Guy Allen. Allen, who has won Deadwood three times in the past, will be joined by 82 other steer ropers including Tri-State area ropers JR Olson, Cody Taton, and Jess Tierney.

Slack beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, will feature nine of the top 20 PRCA cowboys in the steer wrestling, 10 of the top 20 cowboys in the tie-down roping and seven of the top 20 teams in the team roping.

All of the timed event cowboys will compete again either in the July 24, 8 a.m. slack or the July 24, 25, 26, or 27 performances.

Steven Dent leads the list of bareback riders which includes the number two ranked cowboy Jessy Davis of Payson, UT, and Belle Fourche cowboy Cleve Schmidt, who is currently ranked 19th in the bareback standings.

In Deadwood’s premiere event – the saddle bronc riding – 13 of the top 20 cowboys are entered including former South Dakota resident Billy Etbauer of Edmond, OK, who currently leads the saddle bronc standings. Other saddle bronc riders include third ranked cowboy and past NFR average winner J.J. Elshere of Quinn, SD; Gillette, WY cowboy Chet Johnson, who is currently ranked 12th; Newell, SD cowboy Cody Taton, who is currently ranked 14th; world champion Jeff Willert of Belvidere, SD; and NFR qualifiers Jesse Bail of Camp Crook, SD, and Red Lemmell from Faith, SD.

The bull riding will be led by the number one leader in the current bull riding standings, Chance Smart of Philadelphia, MS, who will be joined by 10 other top 20 bull riders including Bobby Welsh from Gillette.

In the barrel racing, number one, number two, and number three current leaders are entered along with eight of the other top 20 barrel racers which includes current leader Lindsay Sears of Nanton, Alberta, number two barrel racer Brittany Pozzi-Pharr of Victoria, TX, and Letcher, SD’s Jill Moody, who is currently ranked third in the WPRA world standings.

The entry list in Deadwood also includes virtually all of the top Badlands Circuit cowboys and cowgirls who will be trying to win money in Deadwood in order to qualify for the Circuit Finals to be held again in Minot, ND in October.

Riding event cowboys this year will be competing on Burch rodeo horses and bulls well-known throughout this area for their rankness and ability to buck. Burch will be joined by Sutton Rodeos, Joe Simon Rodeo and JS Rodeo, who will also be providing the bucking horses and bulls.
