Producer participation in NAIS ‘disappointing’


USDA’s top veterinarian, Dr. John Clifford, said Tuesday, May 5, current producer participation in the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is a “disappointing” 35 percent.

He said that while 70 percent participation “would provide some measure of traceability,” rates as high as 90 percent are needed “to ensure the benefits of the system.”

He was testifying before a joint hearing of House Agriculture and Homeland Security subcommittees.
