ProRodeo League of Women raises $100,000 for Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund

A fashion show and luncheon is a light-hearted way to spend an afternoon during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. However, the event annually raises a lot of money for an important cause. This year’s, Sequins, Spurs & Stilettos ProRodeo League of Women Fashion Show raised $100,000 for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund (JCCF). It is the largest fundraiser of the year for the JCCF, which financially assists contestants injured while competing.

The 23rd annual luncheon and fashion show was held Dec. 9 at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa and was hosted by ProRodeo Hall of Famer Michael Gaughan and his wife, Paula. More than 1,000 people attended. Tracey Hedeman and Stacey Custer spearhead the event with assistance from many volunteers.

“We have an amazing team that puts this together and every year I’m in awe of their work ethic, and the generosity of the rodeo community and our sponsors,” said Cindy Schonholtz, JCCF program manager. “We could not do this without the support of Michael and Paula Gaughan.”

A pair of Tuf Cooper pink Rios of Mercedes boots was the high-ticket item in the live auction. The boots were signed by the tie-down roper and members of his family, including Clif, his brother, his uncle Stran Smith and brother-in-law, Trevor Brazile.

Jennifer Smith and Sharon Camarillo emceed the luncheon and entertainer and barrelman Flint Rasmussen presented more than 200 prizes during the raffle worth more than $30,000.
