Ramona J. Lown
Ramona J Lown, 75, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 in Ellis Good Samaritan Home, in Ellis, KS after a brief illness. Ramona Lown was born August 23, 1932 at Crawford, NE to Vernon and Ruth (Davis) Barker. Ramona attended school in Crawford, NE. She married Phillip Lown on April 13, 1949 in Mankato, KS.
After their marriage, they lived in Carthage, MO and then moved to various homes in Colorado. They lived in Colorado from 1955 to 1993 when they moved to Kansas to retire. They finally settled in Cawker City, KS in 1996 to be closer to the lake and the fishing that they both loved. Phil and Ramona celebrated their 50th anniversary in April of 2000 with a weekend celebration with family and friends.
Ramona had various jobs, her last being the Clerk to the County Commissioners. Some of her many hobbies that she was most proud of were gardening, quilting and oil painting.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Downs, KS, the Elks Lodge of Englewood CO, and the senior centers of Glen Elder and Cawker City, KS.
Those preceding her in death are her husband, her parents, and twin infant brothers.
Survivors include: three sons – Vernon and his wife Carole of Elizabeth, CO, Phillip G and his wife Luanne of Bennett, CO, Norman and his wife Belle of Carthage, MO. One daughter – Teresa Moore and her husband Doug of Bazine, KS. 11 Grandchildren, Tina Joslyn of Carthage, MO, Valerie Boswell of Elizabeth, CO, Jimmie Buerge of Joplin, MO, Kimberly Rhoads of Elbert, CO, Bobbie Jo Weigel of Golden, CO, Nicole Pollart of Sterling, CO, Brian Lown of Kiowa, CO, Joshua Lown of Carthage, MO, Randy Maes of Ft Collins, CO, Christa Mewbourn if Arvada, CO, and Clifford Lown of Carthage, MO. She also has 29 Great grandchildren, three brothers Kenneth Barker of Edgemont, SD, Dale Barker of Chadron, NE, Larry Barker of Loomis, NE and one sister LaDean Bridge of Hollister, MO as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Downs, KS. Internment was in the Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cawker City, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 1017 Blunt St., Downs, KS or Ellis Good Samaritan Home, Ellis, KS
