Robb and Dana Cook of R&D Angus hosted a nice crowd for their annual bull sale at Valentine Livestock. The weather in this area has been beautiful and the buyers came with confidence in the weather and in the bulls.

Although this is not the largest herd in Nebraska, there can be no one that’s more enthused and interested in their cattle and their customers than Robb and Dana. We see many repeat buyers so we know these cattle are working. They have flushed some of their top cows to emphasize the top maternal genetics in their herd. Many of these cows originated from the Stevenson and Basin herds.

The front end of these bulls are as good as you see! The bulls sold in catalog order, and the sale moved right along.

The top selling bull of the day was Lot 5, selling for $6,100 to the Witte Ranch from Crookston, NE. He was a big, stout, power bull, sired by SAV Net Worth 4200 and out of a daughter of Three Tree’s Rock On 0059 who had ratioed 103 on two calves. His EPDs included +3.7 BW, +53 WW, +28 MILK and +101 YW. With an 80 pound birth weight, he weaned at 657 pounds and posted a yearling weight of 1,291 pounds.

Lot 2 sold for $4,200 to the Arabia Ranch from Valentine, NE. Sired by Basin Expedition R850 and out of a daughter of Stevenson Benchmark N190, he was a calving ease bull with a 75 pound birth weight. He had EPDs of -0.2 BW, +49 WW, +22 MILK and +97 YW.

Pat Trask from Wasta, SD bought Lot 4 at $4,200. This son of Basin On Target 7T16 was out of a daughter of Basin Max 602C and had EPDs of +0.7 BW, +51 WW, +26 MILK and +100 YW. He had an 82 pound birth weight, a weaning weight of 765 pounds and a yearling weight of 1,381 pounds. He was a deep, stout-made bull with excellent performance.

Lot 6 sold to Wes Schmidt from White River, SD for $4,000. He was a son of Stevenson Moneymaker R185 and out of a daughter of Stevenson Hunter 616K. This cow was a pathfinder who had ratioed 106 on five calves. With EPDs of +3.1 BW, +54 WW, +23 MILK and +94 YW, he had an 82 pound birth weight. He weaned at 689 pounds and posted a yearling weight of 1,246 pounds.

The gavel fell at $4,000 with Lot 3 finding a new home with Todd Boettcher from Spencer, NE. This son of SAV Final Answer 0035 was out of a daughter of Basin Sleep Easy 116D who had ratioed 107 on 10 calves. He had a 70 pound birth weight and EPDs of +1.2 BW, +48 WW, +22 MILK and +88 YW.
