Red Western 2012 Red Angus Bull Sale
The annual Red Western Red Angus Bull sale was held at Crawford Livestock, Crawford, NE on April 13, 2012. The sale was hosted by Brad and Trixie Grill, B Lazy T Ranch, and Jeff and Diana Grill, Grill Cattle Co., and their families. Guest consignor again this year was Fick Red Angus.
Brothers Brad and Jeff Grill run their Red Angus cows with the commercial cattleman in mind. They co-manage a large commercial cow-calf ranch in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota. The registered cowherd is managed just like the commercials so they have to be able to produce on their own without a lot of extra help.
These bulls are moderate framed, easy fleshing and fit the rugged terrain they are raised. The bulls are not fed hard for optimal gains, but slowly developed to express their natural genetic ability. The Fick Red Angus bulls are managed with the same philosophy and these outfits compliment each other quite well. With spring born yearlings, fall bulls and two-year-old bulls, there was a bull to fit any cattlemen’s operation and price range.
Topping the sale was Lot 20, B Lazy T Ranch Bull X072, an August 2010 son of PCC OH Willie 4266S. This thick-made, deep-bodied bull had EPDs of BW 1.3, WW 32, YW 58 and Milk 18 with a weaning weight ratio of 127 and yearling ratio of 117. John Marshall, Katy, TX, was the buyer at $7,750.
