Well it was time for the annual spring sale in Hysham, Mont., the calendar told the correct date but the weather did not want to cooperate. The back pens were full of fresh snow, top end cattle, and potential bull buyers. As it has been told all year it is an exciting time to be in the cattle business and that attitude carried over as the bidding started. It was a small crowd with a big pocket book that battled the phone bidders throughout the sale. Nothing less was expected with the reputation that precedes the outstanding reports on these Red Angus bulls. The Redland bulls are known for practicing calving ease backed with good carcass, structure, and dispositions. The Redlands are excellent cattle producers as well as hosts. Here is the top end:

Lot 40, one of my favorite bulls, Red Jig 3036, s a RCRA Jigsaw 9X son who sold for $13,500 to Tom Bradbury of Byers, Colo. His EPDs are BW -2.2, WW 58, YW 90, and Milk 20 backed up with an actual birth weight of 81 pounds and a 205 weight of 817 pounds! What an all-around bull.

Lot 41, another high growth bull, sold for $8,500 Crown Enterprises of Broadview, Mont. Red Wheat 3037 is a K2 Red Alliance 1602 73 who supports EPDs of BW -0.4, WW 75, YW 110, and Milk 18. His actual birth and 205 weights are 81 pounds and 785 pounds respectively.

Next to the top is Lot 23, Red Tuff 361, is a FCC Rambo 502 son who sold out for $8,250 to Quince Weeks of Kearney, Neb. This bull’s EPDs are BW 1.4, WW 45, YW 67, and Milk 19 and his actual birth weight was 90 pounds followed up with a 205 of 755 pounds.

Tying for last hole of the chart toppers were lots 6 and 44 for $8,000. Lot 6, Red Mission 303, is a GMRA Secret Mission 8258 son with EPDs of BW -1.5, WW 60, YW 97, and Milk 28. His actual weights at birth and 205 days were 88 pounds and 756 pounds he was purchased by Bob and Frances Dellit of Sumatra, Mont.

Lot 44 sold to Tom Bradbury of Byers, Colo. Red Alliance 3062 is a K2 Red Alliance 1602 73 son with EPDs of BW -0.6, WW 75, YW110, and Milk 18 supported by actual birth and 205 weights of 77 pounds and 756 pounds.
