Rep. Panetta puts together a letter to Ag Sec. Sonny Perdue about LGBTQ youth participation in 4-H events
Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., a member of the House Agriculture Committee, organized a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue about actions taken by Agriculture Department officials last year instructing 4-H to revoke guidance welcoming LGBTQ youth to the organization.
The actions were reported by the Des Moines Register.
The letter was signed by 73 Democrats. The first signer after Panetta was Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Ill.
“We are seeking answers of Secretary Perdue and the USDA over these actions. We can, and we must, do more to support LGBTQ youth and prevent barriers to programs like 4-H,” Panetta said in an email.
