Ridder Hereford Ranch hosted their annual production sale with a morning temperature of 23 below zero outside, but he heated sale facility and hot bidding action inside made for a great sale.
The Ridder Family really outdid themselves with this year’s sale offering and hospitality. The bulls were in great shape and very well received by the large crowd in the seats and buyers participating via the internet. A special feature again was Ridder’s Carload of yearling bulls they took to the National Western Stock Show in Denver that won their division.
Topping the sale was Lot 17, R 2Y North Star 43A, selling for $15,000 to Stuber Ranch, Bowman, N.D. Sired by Ridder’s powerful new herd sire YV 34W Major Mark Lad 2Y, 43A is highly pigmented, clean and very thick with a 75 lb actual BW and out of a young Dam with powerful progeny records of 91 BW, 108 WW, and 105 YW.
Second high selling bull was Lot 18, R 1Y North Star 13A, selling for $13,250 to Tom Christen, Anselmo, Neb. Both 1Y and the 157K Dam are top of the breed for IMF.
The Lot 3 bull, R 0141 North Star 7A, sold to Knippling Brothers, Gann Valley, S.D., for $12,000. Ridder’s 0141 calves were very popular and made up the bulk of their Denver Carload this year.
Lot 2, R 955W North Star 6A, also sold for $12,000 to Brad and Hunter Stuart of Roby, Texas. Ridder’s retained partial interest on this calf whose Dam has a WW ratio of 115 percent.
Two year-old bulls
The high selling two-year-old was the $12,250 Lot 72, R 102W North Star 68Z, who sold to Knipplings. 68Z is a strong 12 Carcass rated bull. Ridder’s recently sold the 102W sire to BB Cattle Co. in Connell, Wash.
Lot 56, R 0141 North Star 35Z sold to John Skrdla at Stuart, Neb., for $10,000. This 9 star carcass rated bull has a 100 YW EPD and is out of a high performance cow family including the great Harland 461 herd sire.
Lot 28, R 0141 North Star 29Z, sold to Bob and Jim Holm, Mason City, Neb., for $7,750. This super muscled, 121 REA, 110 IMF bull is out of a Mister Mom 350 DOD daughter.
Lot 25, R 955W North Star 2Z, sold to Neu Herefords, Dale Neu of Rockham, S.D., for $7,500. With a 70 lb actual BW and 96 YW EPD, 2Z boasts thickness, a 114 REA, 125 IMF and out of a great 093Ux157K daughter.
Topping the heifer sale was Lot 101, R Starlette D303, a 955W daughter with a near-perfect 14 star Carcass rating, strong performance EPD’s, and an actual 75 lb BW. Texas Stardancer Cattle Co. paid $4,600 to own her.
Lot 124, R Starlette J312, a tremendous 102W prospect with extra style sold to Stuarts in Texas for $3,700.
Lot 115, R Starlette 25, sold for $3,600 to Texas Stardancer. Out of 102W and a 157K daughter, this fall heifer brings with her a 13 star Carcass rating.
Lot 102, R Starlette 304 out of 0141 sold to Stuarts in Texas for $3,500 and has a 11 star Carcass rating. F
