River Hills Ranch Angus Bull Sale

Bruce Handel of Menno, SD purchased the top selling bull, Lot 43, for $4,700.

River Hills Ranch, owned by Harold Steele and family, along with his herd manager Lloyd Timmerman and marketing manager Dave Powers, hosted a nice crowd on a very cold day for their annual bull sale.

The River Hills Ranch is one of the most beautiful and modern facilities in the seedstock business. This ranch covers a vast area along the foothills of the Missouri River, and has a well laid out and attractive ranch headquarters.

This was one of the most uniform sets of bulls that River Hills has offered. Their cow herd has been selected and bred for performance, calving ease, maternal traits and carcass merit. They use all of the genetic tools available, and they have bred some of the top herd bulls across South Dakota. The bulls they turn out are bred for balance between lower birth weights and higher weaning and yearling weights, while still maintaining a moderate mature size.



Top selling bull of the day was Lot 43, a son of the very popular SAV Final Answer, and out of a daughter of Baldridge Kaboom. He had EPDs of +0.1 BW, +63 WW, +110 YW, +19 MILK, +52.72 $B, +0.44 Marb, and +0.34 REA. He had an IMF scan of 5.31% to ratio 112 and a rib eye area of 14.0 sq. in. With a weaning weight of 744 pounds, he ratioed 113 before growing to 1,293 pounds as a yearling to ratio 108. He sold to Handel Farms from Menno, SD for $4,700.

Lot 90 sold for $4,400 to the VanderPol Ranch from Gregory, SD. He was a son of HARB Pendleton 765JH, and had EPDs of +1.2 BW, +56 WW, +105 YW and +23 MILK. He had an 80 pound birth weight to go with a weaning weight of 711 pounds, and a yearling weight of 1,386 pounds to ratio 116.



Mark Mailander from Rapid City, SD chose several bulls on the sale with his top purchase being Lot 40 at $3,500. He was a son of CAR Efficient 534 and had a weaning weight of 718 pounds. With an REA of 13.8 sq. in., he posted EPDs of +1.6 BW, +53 WW, +102 YW and +30 MILK.

The Split Diamond Ranch from Whitehall, MT chose Lot 64 at $3,500. This son of Predestined was out of a daughter of Connealy Front Page and had EPDs of +2.0 BW, +55 WW, +97 YW, and +31 MILK. He had a $ B of +63.54 and a weaning weight of 758 lb. to ratio 115.
