‘Ropes and Goats’ roping held Tuesdays starting in June

TSLN staff reports

“Ropes and Goats” will be held for the first time this summer at the Faith Stock Show and Rodeo Grounds in Faith, SD. The event will include jackpot breakaway roping and goat tying for all ages, starting June 14, continuing Tuesdays throughout the summer on: June 28, July 12, July 26, Aug. 16 and Aug. 30. Rainout dates are June 21 and July 19.

The event will follow the same rules as 4-H competition, with the exception that a contestant may enter more than one age division as long as that contestant doesn’t enter an age division below their age. There is an open division for girls and boys of all ages.

In the breakaway roping event, the gate will be open, catch-as-catch can rule after the loop has passed over the calf’s neck (except in the breakaway, which is neck catch only).

In addition to the roping, contestants will have an opportunity to memorize a bible verse and put their name in a drawing to win $5. A verse will be announced at each event to be recited at the next event.

Entries begin at 5 p.m., with the bible verse reciting at 6 p.m. The goats and roping will follow, beginning with the youngest division to the oldest division with girls going first.
