February 6, 2014
At the Winter Policy Conference of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch was named Vice Chair of NASDA's Rural Development and Financial Security Committee. The committee is led by Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Bob Flider.
Prior to his appointment as Secretary, Lentsch served as the Director of Agricultural Development for South Dakota, a job that drew upon his prior experience in production agriculture, small business entrepreneurship, and military service.
"Agricultural technology, infrastructure, and renewable fuels are a few issues of importance to this committee," said Lentsch. "I look forward to bringing South Dakota's perspective to the important work this committee does."
NASDA President and Vermont Secretary of Agriculture expressed his gratitude for Secretary Lentsch's willingness to serve.
"It's wonderful to have a new member willing to participate as a leader within this great organization," said Ross. "We are looking forward to drawing upon Secretary Lentsch's passion for rural development as we shape NASDA's policy priorities."
NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. To learn more about NASDA, please visit http://www.nasda.org. F
