Averages: 37 Yearling Polled Hereford bulls – $3,663; 4 Bred Polled Hereford Heifers – $3,125; 33 Limousin Bulls – $3,086; 20 Lim-Flex Bulls – $3,400.

Bar JZ Ranches of Holabird, South Dakota hosted their 61st annual production sale two months earlier than in previous years. The Bar JZ program seeks to offer calving ease bulls that grow well and maintain superior carcass traits. By raising Polled Hereford, Limousin, and Lim-Flex cattle, the Zilverbergs produce bulls to meet the needs of many crossbreeding systems.

Top-selling Polled Herefords:

Lot 4, Bar JZ Authority 635Y was March 16, 2011 son of MR Advisor, and out of Bar JZ Primrose 506T, a Prime Up daughter. He sold to Steve Witt, Bristol, SD, for $8,500 (three-fourths interest, full possession.)

Lot 6, Bar JZ Straight No Chaser 646Y, was a March 17, 2011 son of Victor 719T, and out of Bar JZ Rene 872W, a Rib Eye daughter. Sold to Peckenpaugh Ranch, Carthage, SD, for $7,750 (three-fourths interest, full possession.)

Lot 3, Bar JZ Reward 610Y, was a March 10, 2011 son of Revolution, and out of Bar JZ Ruthie 029W, a Ramp Up daughter. He sold to James Massa, Winner, SD, for $7,200.

Lot 1, Bar JZ Resource 604Y, was a March 9, 2011 son of Revolution, and out of Bar JZ Rebecca 954W, a Request daughter. Sold for $7,000, to Tracy Mader, Maple Grove, MN. (three-fourths interest, full possession.)

Lot 25, Bar JZ Admiral 645Y, was a March 17, 2011 son of MR Advisor, and out of Bar JZ Kylie Jo 770U, a Kirby daughter. Sold for $6,900, to Rausch Herefords, Hoven, SD.

Bred Polled Hereford heifers:

Lot 50, Bar JZ Danielle 097X, a March 11, 2010 daughter of Durango, and out of Bar JZ Emmy Lou 239S (a Dam of Distinction.) She sold to Tegtmeier Polled Herefords, Burchard, NE, for $4,100.

Limousin Bulls:

Lot 52, Bar JZ Shotgun 779Y, a homo-polled, double black, purebred, an April 12, 2011 son of ROMN Wingman 102W, and out of Bar JZ Dynasty 724U, an Overtime daughter. Sold to Vorthmann Limousin of Treynor, IA, for $5,900.

Lot 53, Bar JZ A Capella 601Y, a homo-polled, double black, purebred. A March 8, 2011 son of User Friendly and out of Bar JZ Harmony 867W, a 502P daughter. He sold for $5,400, to Russell Johnson, Sebeka, MN.

Lots 55, 56, 63, 73, 75 all sold for $4,000 and were purchased by Bryan Olivier, Milesville, SD; Earl Parsons of Milesville, SD; and Mark Helkenn of Clark, SD.

Lim-Flex Bulls:

Lot 107, Bar JZ Nexus 683Y, a homo-polled, double black, 34 percent Lim-Flex. A March 25, 2011 son of TR In Focus 8004U, and out of Bar JZ Heartbreaker 728U, a Justice 586S daughter. Sold to Lee Kleinschmidt of Harrold, SD, for $5,000.

Lot 98, Bar JZ Nexus 609Y, double polled, double black, 50 percent Lim-Flex. A March 10, 2011 son of TR In Focus 8004U, and out of Bar JZ Rapunzel 981W, a Ransom 202T daughter, to Lee Kleinschmidt of Harrold, SD, for $4,500.

Lot 96, Bar JZ Impression 626Y, double polled, double black, 50 percent Lim-Flex. A March 14, 2011 son of Connealy Impression, and out of Bar JZ Cressida 890W, a Top Criteria daughter. Sold for $4,500, to Lee Nolz, Miller, SD.

Lot 97, Bar JZ Total 606Y, double polled, double black, 31 percent Lim-Flex. A March 10, 2011 son of Bennett Total, and out of Bar JZ Essence 115R, a Gentleman in Black daughter. Sold for $4,500, to Lee Nolz of Miller, SD.

Limousin volume buyer was Earl and Jodi Parsons, Milesville, SD. Hereford volume buyer was Fritz Johnson, Faith, SD. The bulk of the cattle sold into South Dakota with additional buyers from North Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wyoming, Iowa, and Kansas. F
