A wet snow from a spring snowstorm did not halt the spirit of this strong sale. Raven Angus, owned by Rod Petersek and his sons, RJ and Reed, hosted a standing room only crowd for their annual bull sale held at the ranch.

This herd is constantly on the move to bring the best genetics possible for their commercial customers. The Petersek family is involved in farming as well as in some cattle feeding. Due to this diversity, they search for the best possible combination of Angus cattle that perform in the pasture as well as in the feedlot.

This sale featured the first progeny of their new herd sire, PA Power Tool, and his strong traits were confirmed as some of the top sellers were his sons.

Top selling bull of the day was Lot 23, selling for $ 14,000 to Duane and Bob Lunne, Dallas, SD. He was a son of Final Answer 0035, and out of a daughter of SYDGEN Mandate 6079. With a 71-pound birthweight, he weaned at 833 pounds and posted a yearling weight of 1428 pounds. He scanned a 14.7 square inches REA, and had a percent IMF of 4.91 to ratio 115. He also had a 39.5 centimeter scrotal measurement.

ABS, DeForest, WI, bought Lot 2, at $12,000. This son of PA Power Tool 9108, was out of a daughter of LEMAR Windy 434S, and had EPDs of BW 1.1, WW 73, YW 121, Milk 30, MB 57 and REA 0.39. Born at only 78 pounds, he weaned at 825 pounds, and grew quickly to reach a yearling weight of 1543 pounds. He scanned a REA of 14.9 square inches and measured a 39.6 centimeter scrotal.

Dan Valberg, White River, SD, bought Lot 24 and Lot 25 – each at $10,000. The Lot 24 bull was a son of Final Answer, and out of a daughter of SA Neutron 377. He posted EPDs of BW 0.7, WW 53, YW 90 and Milk 19. His 14.7 square inches rib eye, and a percent IMF of 4.95 to ratio 116, completed the package.

The Lot 25 bull was also a son of Final Answer, and was out of a Grid Maker daughter. His EPDs were BW 1.7, WW 58, YW 98 and Milk 21. He scanned a REA of 15.1 square inches. He came into the world at 82 pounds, weaned at 724 pounds and attained a yearling weight of 1455 pounds.

Novotny Angus, Colome, SD, chose Lot 22 at $11,000. Another son of Final Answer, and out of a daughter of M/M Efficiency Plus 975, he had EPDs of BW 0.8, WW 64, YW 105, Milk 28, MB 0.53, and REA 0.59. He had a BW of 79 pounds, a WW of 838 pounds and a YW of 1486 pounds. He scanned a 15.6 square inches REA, and had a percent IMF of 4.96 to ratio 116.

The gavel fell at $9,750 as Lot 6 was swept up by Craig Thieman, Winner, SD. Here was a son of PA Power Tool 9108, who was out of a daughter of Bon View Bando 1394. He had EPDs of BW 0, WW 60, YW 100 and Milk 23. With a 13.9 square inches REA, he had a percent IMF of 4.76 to ratio 111.

Both Lot 3 and Lot 18 sold for $9,500 each. Lot 3 was a son of Power Tool and Lot 18 was sired by S Chisum 6175. The new owner of Lot 3 was Rex Pfaff of Ponca Creek Cattle Company, Bonesteel, SD.
