Sletten Angus hosted as many people as you can sit down in Faith (SD) Livestock for their annual sale. This year John and Tammy offered the heart of their registered cow herd which brought many people to town. The weather was beautiful as the folks gathered to look over the cattle before sale time.

The open yearling heifers all sold in one draft for $1,750 each to repeat buyer Stan McKnight, Onida, SD.

The top selling female was Lot 010, a two-year-old heifer sired by Hoover Dam and bred to Connealy Consensus for a March calf. She sold to JR Angus, Iowa for $3,750.

The top selling bull of the day was the first bull in the ring, Lot 100 selling for $8,250 to Miller Angus, Estelline, SD. He was Mr JT Tomahawk 100, a son of SydGen CC & 7, and out of a daughter of Connealy Onward. He had an 86 pound birth weight and a weaning weight of 764 pounds His EPDs were: BW 1.9, WW 58, YW 111 and Milk 40. His dollar beef was $69.67.

Floyd Cammack bought Lot 145 at $8,000. I felt like this bull was made the way an Angus bull should be, with a breed character head, and a deep, wide body behind it. He was a son of Hoover Dam, and out of a daughter of GAR Duke 104. He had an 85 pound birth weight, and a weaning weight of 642 pounds His EPDs were BW 2.2, WW 48, Milk 29 and YW 90.

Lot 149 sold for $7,250 to Mark Mailander, Rapid City, SD. He was JT Deep Zone 149, sired by Hoover Dam, and out of a daughter of Connealy Onward. He had an 84 pound birth weight and weaned at 650 pounds, with EPDs of: BW 1.5, WW 51, Milk 32 and YW 100.

Repeat buyer John Kari, Bison, SD, chose Lot 110 for $7,000. He was a son of SydGen CC& 7, and out of a daughter of Connealy Packer 547. With an 80 pound birth weight, he weaned at 744 pounds He posted EPDs of: BW 0.5, WW 58, Milk 40, and YW 107.

Lot 137 sold for $7,000 to Irving Jordon, Faith, SD. He was a son of Hoover Dam and out of a dam by New Frontier 095. Born at 91 pounds, he weaned at 668 pounds, and had EPDs of; BW 1.3, WW 48, Milk 35 and YW 92.

John Kari was back to buy Lot 139 at $7,000. He was yet another son of Hoover Dam. Born at 87 pounds, he was out of Miss JT Becky 506 by ER Falcon K177. His weaning weight was 714 pounds, and he had EPDs of: BW 2.2, WW 50, Milk 35 and YW 91.

The volume buyer of the day was Dick Schrempp, Eagle Butte, SD, with 15 bulls.

This was a big day for the Sletten family, with a huge crowd on hand, and a rose for every buyer. Happy Valentine’s Day.
