Beautiful weather with temperatures hovering around 60 degrees, greeted a packed house of customers and friends for the annual Sandage Angus bull sale Saturday night.
Gary and Diane Sandage produced an outstanding set of bulls for this year’s sale. This is the first time that I’ve been to this sale, and I would have to say I was very impressed with this set of cattle.
The disposition on these cattle was very good – as many times the pens were crowded with people. There were many repeat buyers on the seats which is a testimony to how well these cattle have worked for their customers.
The sale moved along rapidly in front of the biggest crowd that I’ve seen in Rushville.
Top selling bull of the day was Lot 328, selling for $19,000 to Mangen Angus Ranch, Broadus, Mont. Here was a son of WK Tiger 1336 who was out of a daughter of TC Friction 8187. With an 82 lb. birth weight, he weaned at 910 lb., and posted a sale day weight of 1,330 lb. His EPDs were BW 2.0, WW 71, MILK 29, and YW 113.
Lot 32 also sold to Mangen Ranch. At $12,000, he was a son of the increasingly popular Barstow Cash. Out of a daughter of TC Friction 8187, he was born at 78 lb. He weaned at 858 lb,. and had EPDs of BW 1.7, WW 62, MILK 30, and YW 107.
Mangens also bought Lot 34 at $10,000. This bull was a son of Barstow Cash, and he was out of a daughter of TC Friction 8187. With a 78 lb. birth weight, he weaned at 788 lb. His EPDs were BW 2.1, WW 61, MILK 28, and YW 101.
Lot 35 sold for $9,500 to Lehrkamp Angus, Caputa, S.D. This son of Barstow Cash was out of a daughter of Baldridge Ratchet R47. He met the world at 76 lb., then grew to a weaning weight of 854 lb., and posted a sale day weight of 1,225 lb. His EPDs were BW 1.4, WW 64, MILK 28, and YW 112.
Gary Paul, Gordon, Neb., bid $9,500 to own Lot 332, a son of WK Tiger 1336. He had an 82 lb. birth weight and a weaning weight of 908 lb.
At $9,500, Lot 323 sold to Doug Nelson, Gordon, Neb. Here was another bull out of WK Tiger 1336. He weaned at 842 lb., and had a sale day weight of 1,220 lb.
It was a big Saturday night in Rushville, and Diane Sandage served an outstanding supper. It looked like the big crowd was set to stay and enjoy!
