Scott Vance appointed to South Dakota Brand Board

Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed Scott Vance of Faith, SD, to the South Dakota State Brand Board.

Vance is co-owner and manager of the Faith Livestock Commission Company. He will succeed Tom Conger of Buffalo Gap, SD, whose term expired Jan. 3; Conger has been on the board since 2004.

“I want to thank Tom Conger for his long and dedicated service on the Brand Board,” Gov. Daugaard said. “At the same time, I am very pleased that Mr. Vance has agreed to serve on the board. His perspective is valuable as an owner of a West River livestock market.”

Brand Board members serve three-year terms and are subject to confirmation by the state Senate.

The five-member board provides a system of livestock identification through brand registration and assures proper livestock ownership by brand inspection at time of sale or removal from the ownership inspection area. Brand Board investigators also look into livestock losses and thefts, and they apprehend people suspected of violating brand laws.
