Scrapie comment period ends Monday, Nov. 9
USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued a Federal Register Notice proposing changes to the scrapie regulations. Comments to the proposed ruled are due on Monday, Nov. 9.
The American Sheep Industry Association has long supported the eradication of scrapie from the United States and appreciates the work of APHIS, state animal health officials, markets, dealers, producers, equipment manufacturers and others who have made contributions to the progress that has been made towards eradication. In general, ASI believes the amendments proposed by APHIS have been carefully considered and are appropriate.
ASI’s detailed comments are available at http://www.sheepusa.org/IssuesPrograms_AnimalHealth_Scrapie.
Industry is encouraged to offer comments to this proposed rule and are welcome to use ASI’s draft comments in doing so.
A 30-day extension to the comment period has been requested but as of Nov. 6, a notice of extension of the comment period has not been published. Therefore, it is important that all comments get posted prior to the end of day Monday, Nov. 9.
