SD: Ag leadership group study tour planned
August 12, 2015
Lori Cope, executive director of the South Dakota Agricultural and Rural Leadership Program (SDARL), announced recently that Class VIII will travel to Portugal and Spain in February 2016.
"The two-year SDARL program offers intensive study, training and travel for future leaders in agriculture and rural communities. Each SDARL class participates in an international tour, and the destination changes for each class. The Board of Directors chose Portugal and Spain to allow the participants to learn more about trade relationships, domestic and foreign policy, and global food and agriculture," explained Cope.
Travis Bies of Fairburn, SD, President of the Board, added, "Through this agricultural study tour, participants will develop a broader perspective of agriculture in an ever-changing global marketplace. Globalization makes everyone neighbors."
The ten-day study seminar will include tours of agricultural facilities and farms through the region. "We continue to tailor the international experience to fit our objectives," said Cope, "and we will announce our itinerary at the end of July."
Past SDARL classes have traveled to China, Australia and Peru.
