SD Grassland Coalition hosts annual bird watching tour

The South Dakota Grassland Coalition will host the eighth annual bird watching tour near Union Center, S.D., June 13 and 14. The tour—Birds. At Home, on the Range—will take participants on a journey to the Cammack Ranch to observe and record native bird species, and learn about the relationship between conservation practices and wildlife habitat.

The agenda for the two-day event features presentations by landowners and conservation and wildlife experts. Bird identification, plant identification, and children’s activities are included as part of the tour experience.

College graduate credit is offered for tour participants for an additional fee. Contact Dr. Kristel Bakker for more information at 605-256-5182 or email kristel.bakker@dsu.edu.

Tour registration is $20 per person. Students high school age and under are free. The registration fee includes materials and meals. Space is limited—early registration is encouraged.

Anyone interested in participating in the bird tour should contact Judge Jessop at 605-280-0127 or email jjessop@sdconservation.org. The registration deadline is June 6.

A brochure with the event agenda and registration form is available online at SDGrass.org.
