The South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) is seeking an Executive Director (ED). The ED is the chief staff officer of the SDBIC, reporting to the Board of Directors (Board).

“This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about the beef industry to be in a position of leadership and be a part of the state’s Beef Checkoff Program, which helps boost beef demand and better our cattle industry in South Dakota,” said Karla Pazour, SDBIC President.

The ED is responsible for managing the strategic direction of the Board and operational responsibility for staff, programs, beef checkoff oversight, and budget. This person will initially develop deep knowledge of the beef checkoff program and its collection procedures as well as the SDBIC mission statement, core programs, operations and finances.

“We are looking for someone who is cross-disciplined; this individual will need to be able to wear a lot of hats,” said Pazour. “The person in this role not only does public relations but oversees the administration of the checkoff dollar, sets an annual budget, supports staff, and works with the Board. It’s a very diverse position, but if you’re passionate about the beef industry, there’s probably no better role than this. It’s a great position to be a part of the promotion, research, and educational programs that are implemented through the dollar per head checkoff program which was part of the 1985 Farm Bill.”

SDBIC staff works as a team to increase beef demand and to generate positive attitudes while improving profit opportunities for beef producers. The SDBIC believes in sustainable beef production practices that are socially responsible, environmentally sound and economically viable.

Applicants are required to have a Baccalaureate degree or higher in agriculture, human sciences or business field or equivalent work experience. A thorough understanding of the beef industry is necessary. A competitive salary and benefits will be offered to the best candidate.

For a complete description of the duties of the ED, specific qualifications for applicants, and compensation package, go to http://www.sdbeef.org.

To apply, submit a cover letter, resume’ and three references (with email/mail/phone contact information) electronically to newhire@sdbeef.org by August 15. Questions about this position may be directed to Karla Pazour at 605-730-1720 or president@sdbeef.org.

“The current SDBIC ED Ron Frederick will be leaving the organization after the annual meeting in Brookings this September,” added Pazour. “The entire SDBIC appreciates the leadership that Ron has provided these past five years.”
