(November 24,2015) Directors and staff of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council (SDBIC) gathered at the Ramkota Convention Center in Pierre for various committee meetings, as well as the organization’s full board of directors’ quarterly meeting.

Promotion committee members met on Sunday evening prior to the “meet and greet” held for the new executive director, Suzy Geppert. The Monday meeting began with a board of directors meeting starting at 8 am. Todd Johnson, Federation Services, Denver, presented an overview of the national checkoff funded research priorities identified in the long range plan. SDSU researchers were there to discuss these priorities and hold a collaborative discussion with the research committee members during their afternoon meeting in order to identify research objectives that meet the needs of the industry. Lucas Lentsch, SD Secretary of Ag was invited to discuss South Dakota’s agricultural industry where he stressed the importance of relationship building within our rural communities.

Reports were given from staff and those serving on the Federation of State Beef Councils, and the U.S. Meat Export Federation. All beef producers are welcome to attend SDBIC committee and board meetings with the next quarterly meeting scheduled for Feb. 29, 2016.
