SDSU Extension hosts small acreage workshops this fall

BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State University (SDSU Extension Service and North Central Region Sustainable Ag Research & Education (SARE) announce three workshops to be held in western South Dakota, Sept. 24, 30 and Oct. 8.

• “Pasture 101, Weed Control and Monitoring, and Creative Country Home Financing” are the focus of the Sept. 24 workshop. The workshop will be held at Harmony Hollow Acreage, near Rockerville, SD. The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to Noon MDT. Refreshments will be served.

• “Introduction to Permaculture (sustainable agriculture), Chicken Coop Design, and Lawn and Garden Prep for Winter” are the focus of the Sept. 30 workshop held near Dupree, SD on the Bad Warrior Homeplace. The workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. MDT. Lunch will be provided.



• “Meat Goat Production, Grazing Indicators for Successful Pasture Management, Niche Marketing and Manure Management” are the focus of the Oct. 8 workshop held at Butte Vista Farm near Whitewood, SD. The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon MDT. A special tasting of goat meat will be served. Farm Credit Services will help sponsor refreshments.
