SDSU Rodeo Team Gala set for Nov. 12

BROOKINGS, SD – Spend an evening with the SDSU Rodeo Team during the annual SDSU Rodeo Gala on Nov. 12.

Held at the Swiftel Center in Brookings, SD, the gala gives fans an opportunity to meet rodeo athletes and help raise funds to cover rodeo team travel and practice expenses.

The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., supper begins at 6:30 followed by a live auction and dance. A silent auction will run throughout the night.

All 45 of the 2011-2012 team members will be present and introduced throughout the night. This year, the SDSU Rodeo Gala honorees are Myron Williams Family from Wall, SD. The Williams have been a vital part of the Rodeo Steers for State program for many years.

A program which funds scholarships for SDSU students who rodeo, Steers for State is an opportunity for cattle producers to provide valuable support to the SDSU Rodeo Team without writing a check. Instead, they donate weaned calves to the program.

Because the SDSU Rodeo Team is a club sport, not a school sanctioned sport like football or basketball, it does not receive any funding from the athletic department. Although the Rodeo Team receives supplementary funds from the College of Agriculture & Biological Sciences, to pay the coaches’ salary and cover some additional expenses; rodeo athletes are expected to pay their own travel expenses, entrance fees and the expense of boarding their horses.

For reservations please call Jenny at the Swiftel Center Box Office 605-692-7539 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Advance paid reservations will be $25 through Nov. 4 or $30 the week of the event and at the door. For sponsorship or auction item inquiries or donations, contact SDSU Rodeo Team coach, Ron Skovly at 605-690-1359 or Ronald.skovly@sdstate.edu.
