Senate Ag to hold farm bill hearing
Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan., announced today that the committee will hold a hearing Feb. 24 on the implementation of the 2014 farm bill and on two nominees to the board of the Farm Credit Administration board.
The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Room 328A of the Russell Senate Office Building.
The Farm Credit Administration nominees are Dallas Tonsager and Jeffery Hall.
Tonsager is a former member of the FCA board and former Agriculture undersecretary for rural development. He would succeed Jill Long Thompson, current chairman of the board, but an FCA spokeswoman noted that it would be up to President Barack Obama to designate the next chairman of the board.
Hall is president of The Capstone Group, a firm he co-founded in 2009. He was the state executive director in Kentucky for the Agriculture Department’s Farm Service Agency from 2001 to 2009. Previously, from 1994 to 2001, he served as assistant to the dean at the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. Prior to that, Hall was a legislative assistant in the office of now-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. He received a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.
Hall would succeed Leland Strom.
