Champions in the Yards

Jonathan Perry, Fayetteville, Tennessee, evaluated six high quality pens of Shorthorn and ShorthornPlus Pen Bulls and three pens of Shorthorn Heifers on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo.

Champion Pen of Five Purebred Bulls was awarded to Jungels Shorthorn Farm, Kathryn, ND. This impressive set of fall bulls had an average weight of 1,382 pounds and scanned an average rib-eye area of 17.4 square inches.

Jungels Shorthorn Farm also claimed the Reserve Champion Pen of Five Purebred Bulls. The five March and April bulls posted an average weight of 1,033 pounds.

Judge Perry selected Jungels Shorthorn Farm for his Champion Pen of Three Shorthorn Bulls. The March and April trio sired by LEVELDALE Righteous 084 ET and MAPLETON Colonel Gus 71U averaged 995 pounds with an average scrotal circumference of 33.3 centimeters.

Reserve Champion Pen of Three Shorthorn Bulls was owned by Waukaru Farms, Rensselear, Indiana with sons of Waukaru Gold Mine 2109, Sprys All Gold D052, and Waukaru Orion 2047 ET.

Hahn Family Shorthorns, Minonk, Illinois, claimed the Champion Pen of Three Shorthorn Heifers. This trio of March heifers weighed 863 pounds and had an average rib-eye area of 12.9 square inches.

Reserve Champion Pen of Three Shorthorn Heifers was claimed by Stepping Stone Ranch, Edson, Kansas. The May heifers, sired by SSRB Mr BL Jazz 102, weighed 751 pounds and had an average rib-eye area of 12.9 square inches.

CHAMPIONS ON THE HILL

The 2015 Open Shorthorn & ShorthornPlus Show at the National Western

Cody Sankey, Economy, Indiana evaluated 60 purebred females and 22 purebred bulls for the Open Shorthorn Show at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) on January 18th and 19th.

Claiming Grand and Senior Champion honors was SULL Red Knight 2030 ET, exhibited by Sullivan Farms, Dunlap, Iowa. The February 2012 bull is sired by CF Solution X ET. Reserve Grand and Junior Bull Calf Champion was awarded to CF Unique X ET, exhibited by Simon Farms, Rockford, Ohio. The February 2014 bull is sired by CF Solution X ET.

SULL Cool Crystal 3286 ET, exhibited by Mitchell Hunter, Clinton, Oklahoma, walked away with the big win as she was awarded the Grand and Junior Champion Female honors. The April 2013 female is sired by SULL Red Blood ET. Following as the Reserve Grand and Junior Heifer Calf Champion Female was CYT Dream Lady AV 4141 ET, exhibited by Dalton Shanks, Colfax, Iowa. The February 2014 female is sired by LITTLE CEDAR Aviator 503X.

Grand Champion ShorthornPlus bull was awarded to – FCC Night Moves 29B, Fischer Cattle Company, Great Bend, Kansas. The March 2014 bull is sired by FSF Hard Line 7143 ET 1/2. Reserve Grand Champion ShorthornPlus bull went to Shoufler Indiana Moon 401, exhibited by Justin Shoufler, Fortville, Indiana.

Jim Williams, Boling, Texas evaluated the 21 entries for the open ShorthornPlus female show that followed the open purebred show.

Grand Champion and Junior Champion ShorthornPlus female was awarded to SULL Cherri Avenue ET, Kathy Lehman, Shelby, Ohio. The March 2013 female is sired by Monopoly. Following was Reserve Champion and Late Spring Heifer Calf Champion ShorthornPlus Female, STECK Chelsie C 450B ET, Mason Walker, Prairie Grove, Arkansas. The May 2014 female is sired by MAV Charisma 906W.
