Supreme Row

Six purebred cattle breeds vied for the coveted $12,000 Supreme Row purse, sponsored by Tri-State Neighbor, Wells Fargo Bank and Campbell Supply Co., during the week of the Sioux Empire Farm Show Jan. 27-31 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Angus, Dandy Acres Hot Rod 3, was named Supreme Row Bull. Consigned by Dandy Acres Angus, Pipestone, Minn., he was sired by Gambles Hot Rod and out of Dandy Acres Jestress G122. He sold for $8,000 to Troy Baloun, Highmore, S.D.

The Hereford, LCX Classic Zoey 1B ET, was named Supreme Row Female. Consigned by Larry Crane, Mitchell, S.D., she was sired by LCX Classic 105 ET and out of WLL Zoey 3Z. She sold for $15,750 to James Simmermon, Lake Andes, S.D.

Market Beef Show

Shilo Schaake, Westmoreland, Kan., exhibited the champion market steer at the Sioux Empire Farm Show Market Beef Show Jan. 30 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The reserve champion market steer was exhibited by Travis Hofer, Bridgewater, S.D.

Jerome Settles, Norfolk, Neb., and Jara Settles, Topeka, Kan., evaluated the 25 steers in the show.

Third through fifth places overall were as follows: Hailey Becking, Wilkinson, Ind.; Makayla Nelson, Volga, S.D.; and Abby Bravard, Jefferson, Iowa.

Feeder Steer Show

Abi Henderson, Adel, Iowa, exhibited the champion feeder steer, a crossbred, at the Sioux Empire Farm Show Feeder Steer Show Jan. 30 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The reserve champion feeder steer, a crossbred, was exhibited by Katelyn Hartwig, Albany, Minn.

Jara Settles, Topeka, Kan., evaluated a total of 116 head in 22 classes.

Market Goat Show

Trent Kempker, Jefferson City, Mo., exhibited the champion market goat at the Sioux Empire Farm Show Market Goat Show Jan. 30 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The reserve champion market goat was exhibited by Madelyn Scott, Greenwood, Neb.

Chance Neff, San Angelo, Texas, judged a total of 30 goats.

Third through fifth places overall were as follows: Shilo Schaake, Westmoreland, Kan.; Trent Kempker; and Abbie Hambleton, Fullerton, Neb.

Junior Livestock Judging Contest

One hundred fifty-six youth competed in the Junior Livestock Judging Contest at the Sioux Empire Farm Show Jan. 31 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Participants judged three beef classes, two swine classes, two sheep classes and one goat class.

The top 10 individuals in first through 10th place, respectively, were: Cole Eden, Algona FFA 2; Dylan VanGorp, George-Little Rock FFA 1; Trevor Burmann, Algona FFA 2; Spencer Hovde, Clark County 4-H; Julianna Albrecht, Miner County 4-H 1; Brooke Rye, Albert Lea FFA; Martina Albrecht, Miner County 4-H 1; Kate Connor, Miner County 4-H 2; Alex Shoger, Worth County 4-H 1; and Joslyn Hurlbert, Clark County 4-H.

The top five teams in first through fifth place, respectively, were: Clark County 4-H; Miner County 4-H 1; Dodge County 4-H; Aurora/Sanborn 4-H; and Turner County 4-H 1.
