South Dakota: 4-H hippology team places eighth at Western National 4-H Roundup Hippology Contest
BROOKINGS, SD – The South Dakota 4-H hippology team placed eighth overall in the Western National 4-H Roundup Hippology Contest held at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO.
South Dakota 4-H volunteer Judy Winther served as the team’s coach. The team included Madison Cutler, daughter of Larry and Kris Cutler of Claremont; Kendyl Hanson, daughter of Lance and Sharon Hanson of Groton; Peyton Healy, daughter of Bret and Stephanie Healy of Pukwana; and Baily Ringgenberg, daughter of Michael and Molly Ringgenberg of Columbia.
The team took eighth place among several teams, and they placed third in team problems, fifth in team judging, eighth in team station phase, and ninth in the team-exam phase. The team won the right to represent South Dakota at the national competition because they were the top team at the South Dakota State 4-H Hippology Contest held last summer.
The Western National 4-H Roundup is one of the nation’s most challenging competitions for youth, attracting top young people from across the U.S. each year. A highly competitive event for young people ages 14-18, the contest provides participants with an opportunity to develop skills in evaluation, decision-making, communication, self-discipline and responsibility.
The Livestock Industry Trust Fund sponsored the South Dakota 4-H hippology team during their national efforts.
