South Dakota 4-H Youth Livestock Day set for June 3 in Tripp
The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service will host a 4-H Youth Livestock Day on June 3.
The event starts with registration at 8 a.m. at the Hutchinson County Fairgrounds in Tripp. The free workshop is designed to help 4-H’ers, and youth interested in 4-H livestock projects, to learn the skills they need to prepare and show livestock at county and state events.
Participants can use provided swine, sheep, and goats, but youth who want to show beef should provide their own livestock or make arrangements to share with another 4-H’er. Pre-registration is required to make an accurate count for meals.
To register, call the Hutchinson County Extension office at 605-387-4205, or e-mail the office at this address: Hutchinson.email@example.com. Participant should provide their name, address, e-mail address, age, phone number, and the category or categories of livestock showmanship in which they want to take part.
Activities and practice will begin with swine at 9 a.m. Market goats will take focus at 10 a.m., with sheep showing at 11 a.m. Staff will serve a free lunch at noon.
Beef training will take place from 1-5 p.m. The event also includes a livestock judging school in the evening. After a free evening meal at 6 p.m., registration for the training begins at 6:30 p.m. and the school starts at 7 p.m.
