Resilient, tough, sturdy, solid and formidable are words that describe the exterior timbers that line the walkway of the Casey Tibbs South Dakota Rodeo Center in Fort Pierre, SD. These words can also be used describe South Dakota ranching and ranchers.

Reflecting this strength of character along with the importance of their cattle or horse brands, hundreds of ranchers have burned their brand permanently into these posts. The words unspoken illustrate the South Dakota western lifestyle on these large sturdy timbers. Many of the brands are passed down from generation to generation showcasing the history of family ranching in South Dakota.

With over 15,000 brands registered in the state, and as more and more ranchers choose to showcase their brands, the significance of South Dakota ranching and ranch families will continue to be recorded and seen by visitors as well as future generations.

On June 4 from Noon to 4 p.m., ranchers are able to brand directly into the sturdy timbers. Brand sponsors are asked to bring their branding irons, either electric or fire, to the center. Each brand sponsor will receive a personalized nameplate directly under their brand. In addition, they will receive four one-time passes to the center and lunch for those branding. Cost of this brand sponsorship is $200.
