Amendments to the program include: changing the definition of “Premise” to “Verifiable Address”, updating Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) reference, and changing enrollment criteria. Those changes will enhance the program by clarifying definitions and making enrollments more efficient for producers. The full changes took effect Jan. 11 and can be viewed at: http://legis.state.sd.us/rules/DisplayRule.aspx?Rule=12:79
The certified beef program will now use Viewtrak Technologies to rebuild and maintain a data management system. Producers can enroll, transfer, and make updates on their cattle through the database.
“We are excited to be working with Viewtrak’s user-friendly system and look forward to having it available online in the coming weeks,” said Walt Bones, South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture. “This is one example of how SDDA is continuing to improve the South Dakota Certified Enrolled Cattle TM program for our state’s beef producers.”
The USDA Process Verified program is a third-party program that can assure producers and other customers of the credibility of South Dakota Certified Enrolled Cattle™. SDDA is working to strengthen the USDA PVP.
Sarah Jorgensen with SDDA has taken on the responsibilities of making the certified program run efficiently for all South Dakota producers. Jorgensen can be contacted at 605-773-5436.
