South Dakota: Four heifer-breeding workshops set for Jan. 24-25
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service will host four workshops focused on heifer-breeding issues on Jan. 24 and 25.
The times and locations include 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 24 at the Mound City Community Center and 5:30 p.m. on the same day at the Mellette American Bank & Trust Community Room. The Jan. 25 workshops begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Gann Valley Fire Hall and then at 5:30 p.m. at the Wolsey American Legion.
Pre-registration for these free workshops is encouraged to get a count for meals. To register for the Mound City event, call the McPherson Extension office at 605-439-3331. For the Mellette event, call the Spink County Extension office at 605-472-5006. Register for the Gann Valley event by calling the Jerauld County Extension office at 605-539-9471, or for the Wolsey event by calling the Hand County Extension office at 605-853-2738.
Topics include the costs of replacing females and evaluating the cost of having open females. Extension staff will also share information on synchronizing to increase weaning weights, guidelines for breeding heifers developed in dry lots, and how timing of stress impacts rates of pregnancy.
