The 2018 Horse Racing Season is officially in the books with the conclusion of the annual banquet and horseman’s meetings.

On December. 8, members of the South Dakota Quarter Horse Racing Association and the South Dakota Thoroughbred Association held their annual meetings and banquet in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, at the Pat Duffy Community Center.

Each group elected officers, conducted end of year business, held discussions about the future of horse racing in South Dakota, and listened to guest speakers regarding various topics as they pertained to the industry. Among the many awards present during the evening was the prestigious award “Friend of South Dakota Horse Racing,” this award was presented to long time South Dakota Horseman Joe Thorne of Pierre SD. Joe has been involved in horse racing as an owner, trainer, and board member for a number of years.

After the awards banquet the public was invited to listen and dance to local musicians Danny Hall and the Joe Creek Band. Organized South Dakota Horse Racing has been a fixture in this state for nearly 70 years, members of the South Dakota Horseman’s Associations look forward to seeing you all at the races this spring.
